Our Edificio lightweight steel construction system creates flexible spaces and attractive working environments
The Goerzwerk in Berlin – a listed industrial building, attractive working environment for traditional craft businesses, tech start-ups and home to the Berlin workshops for people with disabilities.

An open and flexible room concept was required for the conversion of an entire floor in the Goerzwerk. The planners used Protektor’s Edificio lightweight steel construction system, among other things, to implement the project with as few interventions in the building fabric as possible.
Protektor expertise for the basic construction
The lightweight steel construction team faced a number of challenges when it came to implementing the basic room construction: low ceiling heights, spans of up to 9.40 meters, accessibility of the ceilings (due to the building services above), load-bearing walls with curves.
Edificio, the Protektor lightweight steel construction system, combines all the properties required for such individual and flexible solutions: low weight, high load-bearing capacity and variable design options. In addition, the non-flammable lightweight steel profiles meet the required fire protection criteria (and are also recyclable).
1.5 kilometers of lightweight steel profiles for room-in-room solutions
The new canteen was also implemented with a room-in-room solution and basic construction from edifico. In total, Protektor lightweight steel profiles with a total length of 1,500 meters were used in the Goerzwerk Berlin.
Almost forgot, dear planners:
Our lightweight steel construction team also supported the architectural office responsible for the Goerzwerk construction project: with 3D visualization of the room cell design and advisory support during the construction phase.
